PHILADELPHIA – Senior Chris Lawler, senior Kate Schmid, sophomore Brian Hill and sophomore John McSorley have been named to the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area team for their respective sports. The academic all-area teams are voted on by the sports information offices of the 28 area institutions from the Philadelphia metropolitan area.
For an unprecedented third straight season, Lawler captured the individual title at the 2010 Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Championship, shooting 9-over for the two-day event as the Cabrini golf team finished second. In 2010, he earned first-team all-conference accolades and was twice named the CSAC Player of the Week. Lawler graduated in May with a bachelor’s degree in accounting.
Schmid helped the Cabrini women’s lacrosse team back to the NCAA Tournament and earned CSAC First Team distinction for the fourth straight season, starting each of the Cavaliers’ 19 games in 2010. She concluded her Cabrini tenure with 49 career victories, owning a 10.24 goals-against average and .523 save percentage. Schmid also completed her undergraduate degree in May, earning a bachelor’s degree in marketing.
Hill listed third on the Cavaliers’ men’s lacrosse team in points (44) en route to CSAC Second Team honors. In two seasons with the Blue & White, he has totaled 80 career points with 51 goals and 29 assists. Hill is majoring in business administration.
McSorley’s 2010 season culminated with a U.S. Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Honorable Mention All-America nod. He started all 19 games for the Cavaliers, leading the team with 25 caused turnovers. McSorley is a two-time CSAC First Team selection and was named the conference’s rookie of the year in 2009. He is majoring in educational studies.
Rutgers University – Camden’s Frank Iwanicki and West Chester University’s Sam Ingersoll have been named the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Male and Female Performers of the Year, respectively.
Cabrini celebrates seven Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area selections in 2009-10. Seniors Sabina DeGisi (women’s soccer), Bryan Johnson (men’s soccer) and Lizzie Williams (volleyball) garnered the scholastic distinction following the Fall semester.
